To protect the essential waters of the San Augustin Plains that have allowed the residents of the region to live and flourish for decades.
SAWC was formed when a drilling application was filed in 2007 by the Augustine Plains Ranch (APR) to appropriate 54,000 acre feet of water from the San Agustin Basin that currently supplies water to northern Socorro and Catron Counties. It is proven to provide some southern leakage to the Tularosa River, which connects with and supplies water to the Gila / San Francisco river systems.
